A 35-year-old printer identified as, Solomon Emmanuel, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 14-year-old daughter.

Emmanuel, a resident of 1, Alonge Street, Oke-odo, Agege, was arraigned on a one count charge of rape.

Addressing the court, the prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, said the printer committed the crime on April 27, 2017 at his residence.

Quoting the 14-year-old girl, the prosecutor told the court that the accused called the girl into his room under the pretence of sending her on an errand and there he forced his way on her.

According to Ogu, “The accused shut the door, covered her mouth with a blanket and raped her.

“Thereafter, the girl told her mother and the case was reported to the Police, who apprehended the accused.”

Ogu noted that the offence was contrary to Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, when the charge was read, the 35-year-old pleaded not guilty.

Against this backdrop, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties in like sum.
