Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Confirms Isolated Ebola Case in FCT

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in coordination with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and the FCT Health Services Secretariat, has confirmed a single imported case of Ebola Virus Disease within the Federal Capital Territory.

The patient, an international traveler who recently arrived from Uganda, was initially treated at a private facility before being isolated.

She is currently receiving specialized care in isolation, and her condition is being closely monitored.

Following confirmation, health authorities initiated immediate public health interventions:

Contact Tracing Public health teams have successfully identified and contacted 44 primary contacts—including healthcare workers, travel companions, and hospital patients—who are now under active surveillance.

Infection Control Immediate containment protocols and technical support have been extended to the health facility where the patient was initially managed.

National Surveillance Enhanced screening protocols have been activated across all land, sea, and air ports of entry, alongside heightened surveillance in healthcare facilities nationwide.

Speaking on the response, the Honorable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, reassured the public that Nigeria’s public health architecture—built on lessons learned during the successful containment of the 2014 outbreak—is fully operational and prepared to manage the situation.

> "Preventing further transmission requires public vigilance and cooperation," stated Prof. Pate. "We advise all citizens to remain calm, adhere to recommended hygiene practices, and rely on official communications for updates."

Public Health Guidance & Emergency Contacts:
Citizens are urged to practice frequent hand hygiene and avoid contact with bodily fluids.

Anyone experiencing symptoms—such as sudden onset of fever, severe weakness, headache, vomiting, or diarrhea—should isolate immediately and contact the NCDC toll-free line at 6232 (available 24/7) before seeking in-person care.
