JIGAWA POLICE ARREST 29-YEAR-OLD MAN OVER FATAL STABBING IN DUTSE

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Olatonok, in connection with the alleged culpable homicide of Ibrahim Shago, 32, of Karnaya town, in the Rafin Sanyi area of Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at about 5:45 p.m. The suspect, a barber said to be working at Moonlight Hotel, Rafin Sanyi, Dutse, allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck with a knife following an argument.

The suspect was also alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was subsequently pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Following the incident, some youths reportedly gathered at the scene and attempted to vandalise the hotel.

However, police operatives from Dutse Division promptly responded and brought the situation under control, preventing further escalation and damage to property.

Speaking on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, ANIPR, said the suspect is currently in police custody while a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation to face the full weight of the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, strongly condemned the resort to violence in resolving disputes and urged members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and peaceful.

The Commissioner further cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that all grievances should be reported to the appropriate authorities for lawful resolution.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security across Jigawa State.
