NIGER GOVT MOVES TO REVITALISE PRINTING PRESS, PROPOSES INCENTIVES FOR STAFF WHO ATTRACT CONTRACTS

The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to revitalising the state-owned Government Printing Press, with plans to improve operational efficiency, boost productivity and introduce incentives for staff who attract printing contracts.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, gave the assurance during an official inspection visit to the Government Printing Press to assess renovation and rehabilitation works carried out on the agency’s complex.
During his interaction with staff, Alhaji Usman urged them to adopt a more proactive approach to marketing the agency’s services by attracting printing jobs from government institutions, private organisations and other prospective clients.
In a move aimed at motivating staff and increasing revenue generation, the SSG proposed that employees who successfully secure printing contracts from outside the agency should receive a percentage of the proceeds generated from such jobs.
He explained that the proposed incentive would encourage productivity, promote sustainability and motivate staff to contribute more actively to the growth and development of the agency.
Alhaji Usman emphasised that the success of the Government Printing Press would depend largely on the commitment, dedication and collective efforts of its workforce. He therefore charged staff to demonstrate professionalism, responsibility and a strong sense of duty in carrying out their assignments.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Political Affairs, ESV James Bake, who also oversees the Special Duties Department, disclosed that the renovation of the Government Printing Press complex was made possible through approval granted for the utilisation of proceeds generated from printing jobs executed for government organisations.
He further explained that, since assuming oversight responsibilities for the Special Duties Department, he had introduced measures aimed at revitalising the state-owned printing press and restoring its capacity to provide efficient, reliable and competitive printing services.
The renewed commitment is expected to strengthen the agency’s operations, improve service delivery and enhance its capacity to generate revenue through increased patronage from both public and private sector clients.
